Frequently Asked Questions for PPT Express

  • Question - My data from last year is on a different computer than this year’s program.  How can I get last year’s data to proforma on the new machine?

  • Answer – There are two ways. One is to go into last year’s program on the old machine and use our Backup feature to back up last year’s files on to a floppy disk.  Make sure last year’s program PPT Express 2006 is loaded on the new machine and then use the Restore feature.  Then escape out of last year’s program and go into PPT Express 2007 and Proforma.  The second and probably easier way is to use Microsoft Explorer to copy the client database to a floppy.  The file to copy from the PPT Express 2006 folder is: ppt2006.mdb  If you copy this file to a floppy you can then go to the new computer and proforma from this floppy.

  • Question - I am using a site version of PPT Express 2007.  Can I move the database to my network if only one person will be using the software?

  • Answer – You can load the software directly to your network so that the database (and the program) will be on the network.  Or, you can load the software to your local drive and then move only the database to your network.  You will have to carefully follow the directions in the manual regarding moving the database.  See section in the manual for Program & Database Location for more information.

  • Question – Can I change the default Instruction Letter?

  • Answer – PPT Express 2007 includes four default letters.  We recommend that you review each of these before making any changes.  If you still want to make changes, try picking a default letter that closely matches what your letter will look like.  Start with this letter and use the Save As feature. Please review section in manual regarding Setup – Instruction Letter.

  • Question – Print preview and the print screen is very slow.  Is there anything I can do to speed this up?

  • Answer – If you are printing to a HP 4000 printer or higher and are using a Pentium I, II or III computer you may be able to substantially increase speed by changing your default printer driver to a HP III, IV or V, updating your current print driver or using/installing a post script (PS) print driver.

  •  HP III, HP4 or HP5  (probably most improvement in speed)

  • Post Script print driver for your printer (significantly faster and allows you to use a print driver that was designed to take advantage of all the options your printer comes with) Ex: HP LaserJet 8150 PS   these drivers are usually designated with a PS on the end.  If this driver is not already installed on you computer, you can install it from the CD that was included with your printer or go the HP web site address below and download and then install the PS (post script print driver).  Then set this printer as your default.

  • Update your existing print driver using the manufacturers web site ex: hp.com (may provide significant improvement)

  • To update a HP printer driver go to:

  •

  • Enter your printer name and hit enter.

  • Select your exact printer type from their list.

  • HP will then ask you to select your operating system.

  • We recommend you select the “Driver Bundle” or the driver for your default printer.

  • Click on the driver name prior to downloading for download/install instructions.

  • Then Click download on the appropriate driver and follow instruction from HP.

  •  Go to Setup, then Configuration and then click on Printing Tab.  Click on  Preview zoom and click on 100%.  This should increase print preview speed.

  •  To change your default printer click on START, then SETTINGS and then PRINTERS.  Your available printers will then be displayed.  Right click on any of the above mentioned printers and then click on SET AS DEFAULT.  If none of these printers are available then double click on ADD PRINTER, follow the instructions.   After installing the print driver make sure it is set as your default printer.

  • Question – I can’t find my files from last year when I try and proforma.  Can you help me find them?

  • Answer - Click on the Start button at the bottom left of your desktop, and then click on Find.  Click on Files or Folders and type in: ppt2006.mdb in the Named area and in the Look In field click on the down arrow and click on My Computer (if you are on a network also check there) and click Find Now.  If you still cannot find the ppt2006.mdb file, check on a different computer.

  • Question - I have a network version but each station is running very slow.  Is there anything I can do?

  • Answer – Install PPT Express 2007 to each station and have each station point to the database out on the network.  See section in the manual for Program & Database Location for more information.

  • Question – Every time I go into PPT Express 2007 I get a message that the program is a DEMO even though I am a registered user and/or when I print the word VOID prints on each page.  Why?

  • Answer – You have not registered the program or for some reason the system unregistered itself.  From within PPT Express 2007 click on SETUP and then click on REGISTER PPT EXPRESS.  You will be requested to put the 3.5” floppy disk in to A: or B:.  Do so and click OK.  This will complete the registration process.  If you do not have your 3.5” registration disk please e-mail us your request to: support@taxtimeusa.com

  • Question - When exporting from my depreciation program the required report that will later be imported into PPT Express I get a message that says the export file already exists, should it be overridden? Should I override it?

  • Answer – Yes.  If you do not override the depreciation file it may double up the assets by adding this year’s information to last year’s information.

  • Question – Can I create an icon on each network station?

  • Answer – Yes.  Please refer to “Create Icon for PPT Express 2007” on Page 4 of this manual.

  • If you are getting any of the following error messages please refer to Section 1.3 in this manual for recommended solutions:

  • Error Code 101 Sharing violation: Site Version – only one user can use the system at one time

  • SQL State error message or Driver Error message

  • ODBC Microsoft Access Driver Login Failed – Could not find file C:\ppt2007\ppt2007.mdb or the message Error Code 1000 Critical Error Database Not Found
